sca_0126.jpg Or does it take the guiding hand of another to nuture you toward accomplishment? Or is it a little of both? So then the question: Is talent born or nurtured?I’m sure many of you have explored the interesting relationship between math and music. Just Google it and wow! There’s tons of information like this.momdad.jpg      Call me lucky but, my father is a math professor and my mother is a musician. “Nice combo”, you say; “guess it’s all in the genes”. Maybe, but I was no piano protege when I started at age 7. Thankfully my parents are very good teachers. I quit all the time and my mom would simply sign me up again the next day. I still can’t believe I fell for that.I didn’t like reading the notes. I had my mother play the lesson songs so that I could learn tem by ear (a tallent that has since paid off in some ways). Well, soon I was busted and did have to learn to read the music myself.014gc_bamboo01.jpg It took until I was 14 for me to really feel like being a piano musician was my true calling. A big change occurs when you’re that age and people (girls) start to notice you’re good at the piano and your self esteem rises to the challenge of getting really good. Fabulous things happened for me musically at this phase and my world went crazy! Jazz bands, rock bands, talent competitions, more lessons, pipe organ, playing a lot professionally while still in college, earning a double music performance degree, lots of recordings……………000rockconcert_05-21-82.jpg As I reflect on my many years of musical experiences, I still wonder; Is this tallent born or nurtured? I would like to hear your thoughts on this. What do you think?
